The media and coaches were split as the MIAA released its preseason rankings at the conference's annual media day.

Northwest Missouri State was picked to finish atop the league in the media poll with 32 of the 40 first place votes.
Fort Hays State was second with seven first-place votes.

In the MIAA Coaches Poll, Hays was selected first, edging the Bearcats by one first-place vote.

Two seasons ago, Fort Hays won the conference outright, and Northwest battled back last year to earn co-champion status along with the Tigers in 2018.

Northwest opens the season September 5 in St. Joseph against Missouri Western.
